A Museum with a Unique Mission

Founded in 1991 by Helene Alexander MBE, The Fan Museum is the world’s first museum dedicated entirely to fans and the craft of fan-making. Housed in two beautifully restored Grade II Georgian townhouses*, the museum showcases over 6,000 fans from around the world—some dating back to the 11th century. The collection spans continents and centuries, featuring everything from delicate Japanese folding fans to ornate European designs once used in royal courts.

Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s Japanese-style garden, a tranquil fan-shaped parterre, and an elegant orangery adorned with murals—perfect for afternoon tea or quiet reflection.
